    TOKYO (MNI) - Japan's money stock growth, measured by the key M2
    aggregate, picked up to +2.7% in April from a year earlier after a
    revised +2.6% in March, marking the highest rate of growth since +2.8%
    in October last year, the Bank of Japan said on Thursday.

    Money stock growth accelerated in early 2010, reaching a recent
    peak of 3.1% in May, but remained below the record rise of +3.4% marked
    in October 2009.

    TOKYO (MNI) - Outstanding bank loans in Japan marked a 17th
    straight month of year-on-year drops in April, down 1.0%, but the pace
    of decline decelerated from March's -1.8% as corporate fund demand
    increased after the March 11 earthquake disaster, Bank of Japan data
    released on Thursday showed.

    The y/y drop of 1.0% in April to Y395.6 trillion was the smallest
    since -1.2% in December 2009.

    TOKYO (MNI) - The average price of regular gasoline in Japan this
    week fell to Y152.2 ($1.88) per liter, or $7.14 per gallon, from Y152.5
    last week, posting the second straight weekly drop but stayed near a
    30-month high, data released by the Oil Information Center showed on
    Monday.

    On April 25, the national average of regular gasoline prices rose
    to Y152.7, the highest level in more than 30 months, since the week that
    started on Oct. 20, 2008, when the average price stood at Y157.4.

    But last week the price marked the first drop in 11 weeks.

    TOKYO (MNI) - Japan's foreign reserves rose to a record high of
    $1.136 trillion at the end of April due to the appreciation of the euro
    against the dollar and higher foreign bond prices, Ministry of Finance
    data released Wednesday showed.

    Foreign reserves posted a second straight month-on-month rise in
    April, up from $1.116 trillion at end-March and surpassing the previous
    record high of $1.118 trillion marked in October 2010, when Japan bought
    dollars to stem the yen's rapid rise.

    surplus of Y1.752 trillion in March, down 31.5% on year, the first y/y
    fall in two months after +3.0% in February, according to the median
    forecast of economists surveyed by Market News International.

    The Ministry of Finance will release the data at 0850 JST on

    TOKYO (MNI) - Japan's coincident composite index (CI), which
    reflects current business conditions, is expected to show a relatively
    small fall in March this week, despite sharp drops in its sub-indexes
    including industrial output.

    The Cabinet Office will release the March CI data at 1400 JST (0500
    GMT) on Wednesday, May 11.

    The government will smooth out any drastic changes in the economy
    in the short run, such as a sharp drop in production caused by the March
    11 earthquake disaster, as they may not represent the longer-term trend.

    TOKYO (MNI) - New vehicle sales in Japan tumbled at a record pace
    in April as the March 11 earthquake disaster wrecked supply chains for
    automobile production and dampened consumer sentiment, according to
    data released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association on Monday.

    New vehicle sales plunged 51.0% from a year earlier to 108,824 last
    month, the eighth straight month of a year-on-year decline, following a
    37.0% drop in March.
